Introduction to Waterproof Bag Materials

Waterproof bags play an increasingly important role in modern life, whether for wading, hiking, trekking, cycling, swimming, surfing, or rafting. The performance and durability of waterproof bags largely depend on their materials. This article will provide a detailed introduction to several common materials used in the production of waterproof bags, including PVC waterproof fabric, TPU waterproof fabric, nylon waterproof fabric, and polyurea waterproof fabric.

PVC Waterproof Fabric

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) waterproof fabric is a common waterproof material that enhances its water resistance through coating processes. PVC material has excellent mechanical properties, strong acid and alkali resistance, a low softening point, and stable chemical properties, making it suitable for producing high-strength waterproof bags and packs. PVC waterproof fabric is often used for bags in activities such as rafting and diving, capable of withstanding long-term use and various environmental impacts. However, PVC is not an environmentally friendly material, as its production process requires the addition of stabilizers (such as lead and cadmium) and plasticizers (such as phthalates). Burning discarded PVC can produce harmful substances like hydrochloric acid and dioxins. Additionally, PVC waterproof fabric becomes brittle at low temperatures and melts at high temperatures, making it unsuitable for use in extremely low or high temperature environments.

TPU Waterproof Fabric

TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) waterproof fabric is similar to PVC in that it enhances water resistance through coating processes. Compared to PVC, TPU is more environmentally friendly, more durable, and less prone to aging and cracking. TPU-coated fabrics have true fusion bonding characteristics, providing strong welding strength and allowing for lighter and thinner construction while maintaining the same level of strength. Therefore, TPU waterproof fabric is ideal for producing high-quality, eco-friendly, and long-lasting waterproof bags and packs. TPU waterproof fabric maintains good performance in temperature ranges from -35°C to 75°C, making it suitable for various extreme environments. Additionally, TPU waterproof fabric is odorless, non-tacky, soft, and easy to clean and maintain, making it increasingly popular among consumers.

Nylon Waterproof Fabric

Nylon waterproof fabric is a lightweight and soft material suitable for making travel items, camera bags, and outdoor sports bags. Nylon material has excellent water resistance and is soft, resistant to wear and fatigue, making it suitable for long-term use. Nylon waterproof fabric typically enhances its water resistance through coating or lamination processes while maintaining its lightweight and soft characteristics. Nylon waterproof bags have excellent wear resistance and tear strength, protecting items from damage in harsh environments.

Polyurea Waterproof Fabric

Polyurea waterproof fabric is a new and highly environmentally friendly material. It has excellent water resistance, high strength, and good flexibility, making it resistant to aging and cracking. Polyurea waterproof fabric is an excellent choice for producing high-quality, eco-friendly waterproof bags and packs. Compared to PVC and TPU, polyurea materials are more environmentally friendly, reducing pollution. However, polyurea waterproof fabric is relatively rare in the market, and its applications are still expanding.
